This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. Secret Department to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , Number 124 of 1842, dated 31 October 1842.
The enclosures, numbered 3-11, concern proposed plans for fortifications to protect Aden against attack.
Enclosure numbers 3-4 are recorded as missing in a note dated 22 October 1906. Enclosure number 3 is listed in the abstract of contents as being a copy of a letter from the Quartermaster-General of the Army dated 22 October 1842, forwarding a letter from the officer commanding at Aden, transmitting a report from the Executive Engineer at Aden, on the state and condition of the Turkish [Ottoman] Wall, and other works at Aden.

- Number 5: an abstract of reports by Captain Foster of the Bombay Engineers (who was deputed by the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. in 1839 to report on the existing defences at Aden and the defences required), and of other officers, in relation to Foster’s plans for rendering Aden secure against an attack by ‘Arabs’ by land, including alternative proposals by Lieutenant Curtis (of the Bombay Engineers)
- Numbers 7-8: a monthly progress report of works taking place under the supervision of the Executive Engineer at Aden up to 15 August 1842, and a statement, dated 29 September 1842, of the total amount of money expended on fortifications and works of all kinds completed or in progress at Aden. The report and statement are both from the Bombay Military Board to the Governor and President in Council of Bombay, Colonel Sir George Arthur
- Number 9: a minute by the Governor of Bombay, dated 14 October 1842, summarising the proceedings of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. in relation to the defences of Aden, and giving his views and suggestions on the subject
