This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. Secret Department to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , Number 124 of 1842, dated 31 October 1842.

The enclosures, numbered 3-11, concern proposed plans for fortifications to protect Aden against attack.

Enclosure numbers 3-4 are recorded as missing in a note dated 22 October 1906. Enclosure number 3 is listed in the abstract of contents as being a copy of a letter from the Quartermaster-General of the Army dated 22 October 1842, forwarding a letter from the officer commanding at Aden, transmitting a report from the Executive Engineer at Aden, on the state and condition of the Turkish [Ottoman] Wall, and other works at Aden.

Enclosure number 4 is listed as being a memorandum by the Political Secretary to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. Enclosure number 6 is listed in the abstract of contents as being two plans of the Peninsula or Cape of Aden, and of the old line of field works across the Isthmus of Aden and the line of permanent works proposed for construction, which are not included in this item (the plans are stated on folio 66 to be ‘[i]n a tin case’).
