I have already heard of a number of cases that have been affected adverse
ly bv the heat in the General Hospitals and cannot cease from urging the
absolute necessity there is for using the utmost despatch in obtaining and
erecting this plant.
•Will you kindly state how soon we can expect this plant to be in working
order? I have no doubt that all the buildings have been completed that are
necessary for housing the engines and plant as this matter was thoroughly dis-
cussed and arranged in December ol last year.

“ Your telegram dated 7th June 58164* I am endeavouring to telegrap as
soon as possible after departure of vessel. Delay is due verification names o
officers. Explanatory letter will follow. *
2. There is no fixed place from which hired transports leave. Patients are
embarked from four to five different Hospitals, and rolls cannot be finally
checked till embarkation complete. 1 hese rolls are usually received by me on
the following day.
v. On receipt of the rolls the names of the British and Indian officers
have to be sent for verification to the A. G., Base, and errors in the Hospita
rolls corrected. This is absolutely imperative in order to eliminate cause tor
future references from the Secretary of State for India. The final checked
details are not usually available under 48 hours, from departure of the vessels,,
when the draft telegram is corrected as necessary and despatched.
4 My clerical establishment are self taught. British soldie s with no
special training or qualifications, and until I receive at least two tramed clerks
delays in despatch of these telegrams will be unavoidable and due to local cm*
ditions.
