The Secretary, War Office, London, stated that an additional field troop was being despatched, to provide
the requisite numbers for an independent Cavalary Brigade. Also gave names of units being sent
dismounted and their requirements in horses.

The G. 0 . C., Force <f D ” reported, that confusion and delay was being caused by present system of
despatch of engineering and electrical stores from India. Suggested that note in duplicate be sent to
D. D. Works Basrah, on despatch of ship, and advice whether it contains the whole or part of any
particular indent.
The G. 0 . C., Force <f D ” was asked to forward his requirements on the suppositions :—

(a) that it was decided by the War Committee that an advance on Baghdad, with the force, at present

Proposals were received from the G. 0 . C., Force “ D ” for the establishment, in a modified form, of an
examination service at Fao., the object being to prevent hostile vessels, using a neutral flag, from
entering the port and laying mines. Asked to be provided with an R. G. A. detachment consisting of
one Captain, two subalterns and fifty rank and file.

  • ‘Friendly Kurds’ between Amadia [Amadiya] and Neri
  • Arrests of high-level German army officials in Persia
  • Functions of the Arab Bureau
  • Construction of railways
  • Proposals for a modified inspection centre at Fao [Al-Faw] to prevent enemy ships entering the Shatt-al-Arab
  • Violence at Karbala [also rendered in text as Kerbella], including copy of a letter describing the events written by inhabitants of Karbala and addressed to the Persian Government and leaders of the Kashgai [Qashqāy] and Bakhtiari [Bakhtiyārī] (ff 85-86).

The volume also includes:

  • Appreciations [reports] from the Directorate of Military Operations summarising the situation in Mesopotamia on 19 June (ff 39-41) and 26 June (ff 100-101)
