A translation of a letter from Meerza Abool Hassan Khan [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī], Persian Minister for Foreign Affairs, to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, dated 3 July 1828.

The letter concerns the abrogation of the third and fourth articles of the Definitive Treaty. Meerza Abool Hassan Khan states that, in light of recent events, the Shah [Fath-‘Ali Shāh Qājār] is unwilling to abrogate the treaty articles and has ordered the repayment of 200,000 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. previously paid by Macdonald Kinneir to the Heir Apparent [‘Abbās Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 3 in dispatch No. 108, in Macdonald Kinneir’s dispatch No. 36 to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping.
