From—The Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , Bushire,
To—The Secretary to the Government of India in the Foreign and Political Department.
Please refer to my telegram of the 14th instant, No. 1229 (Diary No- 5663). The only reliable means, which I have of establishing communication^with Poli
tical Agent, Bahrain is by the mail, which steamer does not, however, call this week at Bahrain.
The local Agent of the British India Ste io Navigation Company informs me that, if I insist on the steamer going via Bahrain she will probably miss the
English mail at Bombay even if she abandoned her calls at other intermediate ports en route. In my opinion Bahrain claims over-ride all other considerations.
If the Government of India concur in this view, could they have the necessary instructions conveyed to the British India Steam Navigation Company, informing
me at the same time? Secondly, please communicate urgent instructions when the Shaikh should be taken into the Political Agent’s confidence and be informed
definitely of the despatch of the expedition to Bahrain.
I would suggest intimation being given to the Shaikh before the arrival of the force.
Please treat this telegram as urgent.
