sequestrated 25$ of the Deutsehe Bank holding was transferred
to French interests (it 4s still actually in the h^nds of
the French Government) as a result of the Anglo-French San
Remo Oil Agreement of April, 1920. Negotiations were opened
in 1921 and continued all through last year to bring
in the United States interests. These negotiations were
carried on by the Company in London with the Standard Oil
Company with the cognisance of the French and British
Petroleum Departments and with the general knowledge of
the State Department. As a result,at the end of 1922 the
shares in the Company were redivided in such a way as to give
the French interests 24$, the Anglo4-Persian Company 24$
(plus a certain option on the oil produced as compensation

oil interests brought in by the latter) 24$ and the Royal

other shares rightfully belonged and must continue to be held

This redivision is understood to have been accepted

the American interests who have been unable as yet completely
to fulfil the condition attached by the Shell and Anglo-
Persian Compartato the increase en the American shares
(namely the State Department’s approval of the concession)
and who still appear to object to the Anglo-Persian Company’s
compensatory option*
Meanwhile under the San Remo Oil Agreement, 20$
of the shares in the Company might be held by Iraq, interests*
It is intended to meet this by some form of subsidiary
Company. In any case it is unlikely that Iraqis or the Iraq
Government could produce the cash for the shares*
