Cypher telegram to Ix)rd Curzon, (Lausanne),

Very Urge^. . ,
My telegram No.60 of 8th December.
Sir p. Cox In secret and personal telegram of
December 10th offers following observations on
frontier proposed under compromise suggested by you.
Begins
Previous to the Angora National pact Turks
had repeatedly given out that they were resigned to
the loss of Iraq and Syria and only desired
freedom for national development in territories
inhabited by the pure Turks. I submit that there can
be no doubt that their present demand as suggested
by Lord;Curzon is simply a card in Turco Soviet
policy directed against Great Britain in Middle East
which is only likely to be stimulated to further
enterprise if they siicceed in their present effort. .
Modification of frontier suggested by His Lord-
ship appears to me to be open to the following strong
objections.
(1) In the event of war between Iraq and Turkey
it would be much more dangerous.from a military point,
of view than existing frontier. ■ .
. (2) Result of bringing Turkish frontier so
close to important line of communications and future
railway
