9 M. Gorokhof, the Russian consul at Tabriz, fell down stairs a few days ago and
broke his leg. He applied to the Persian Governor-General for personal protection 111

owing to his accident, he would be unable to look after himself. . , ,
10. Towards the end of June the Russian consul at Tabriz attempted to send
24,0001 worth of gold roubles by car to Tiflis vL4 Julfa. The money was seized by the
Persian Customs authorities at the frontier and returned to Tabriz for adjudication.
The Russian Minister at Tehran has protested against the action of the Persian
authorities, who, however, maintain that the export of gold from Persia is foi bidden
11. Ardebil. —The General Officer Commanding, Tabriz Division, left Tabriz lor
Ardebil on the 30th June on a tour of inspection.
12. A famous sword, inscribed with the names of all the bhahsayan tribes, said to
be worth 12,000 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. , is being repaired at a cost of 4,000 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. for presentation to
the War Minister, Reza Khan.
Kazvin.
13. Minkin, the Russian consul at Kazvin, left for Moscow on the 8th July on two
months’ leave. He is to be replaced by Hoffmann, from Tehran.
14. All mosques were closed in Kazvin on the 7th July, as a protest against the
exodus of mullahs from Irak.
Tehran.
15. With reference to paragraph 6 of last week’s intelligence summary, the ulama
from Irak arrived at Kermanshah on the 8th July, where the Persian Government
is arranging for them to remain while negotiations for their return to Irak are m
progress.
16, On the 8th July, by instructions from the Union of Clergy, Shaidi made a
speech lasting two hours in the Artillery Square in the city, in which he violently
