19. A rupture has occurred in the negotiations which have been in progress for
some months at Moscow for the purpose of arranging a Russo-Persian trade agreement.
Taghi Zadeh, the head of the Persian trade delegation at Moscow, left there for Berlin
about the 26th July.
20. A reception was held on the 2nd August at the Kasr Kajar Barracks by the
War Minister to celebrate the first anniversary of the establishment of the “ Red Lion
and the Sun” (Persian Red Cross organisation). The reception was attended by the
Crown Prince, who is the honorary president of the organisation.
21. “Gostorg” has imported to Tehran from Russia a large quantity of printing
paper suitable for newspapers. M. Shumyatsky has purchased a quantity, which he
has distributed free to the publishers of the Tehran newspapers “ Sitareh Iran,”
“ Shafagh Surkh,” “Ikdam” and “ Kar.” These newspapers are notoriously anti-
British.

22. Colonel Muhammad Hussein Mirza, son of the Farman Farm a, has been
appointed chief of the staff of the Southern (Isfahan) Division in the place of General
Haidar Kuli Khan.
23. A detachment of 260 infantry has been sent from Semirun to Behbehan vi&
Kuhgilu and Boir Ahmed, with two machine guns, under command of Sultan Chulam
Ali Khan. The remainder of the Semirun detachment returned to Isfahan on the
11th July.

24. Anti-British demonstrations have taken place in the chief mosque in connection
with the so-called “ deportation ” of the Shiah mullahs from Irak.
