This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. [Mumbai]. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2203/108134. The correspondents are the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. and Major Samuel Hennell, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . It is the fifth in a series of thirty items.

The item concerns the shooting of Sheik Mahomed ben Yoosoof, Chief of Nukheeloo [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Yūsuf, Shaikh of Nakhilu], by Sheik Houssein ben Jabarrah, Chief of Congoon [Shaikh Ḥusayn bin Jubārah, Shaikh of Kangan], and Hennell’s intention to consequently make Sheik Houssein liable for the compensation due from Sheik Mahomed to the British on account of seizing money from the agent of a British merchant.
