The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and financial statements enclosed within a political letter from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. [Mumbai] to the East India Company Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 27 November 1841. The item relates to requests made to the former by Captain Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and Captain Thomas MacKenzie, Acting Assistant Resident [in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ], for the continued employment of men to guard the vacant Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. buildings in Bushire [Būshehr] whilst the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. is temporarily based on the island of Karrack [Jazīreh-ye Khārk]. MacKenzie also requests permission to spend money on repairs to the buildings in Bushire. Both requests are passed on to the Government of India for approval.
