This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. ; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; Hossein Khan, Sahib i Ikhtyar, Governor of Fars, [Muḥammad Ḥusayn Khān Muqaddam Marāgha’i, Ṣāḥib Ikhtiyār, Governor of Fars]; and Meerza Reza [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Reżā], British Agent at Shiraz.
The item concerns the efforts to obtain redress for two ‘piracies’: the plunder of the wreck of the East India Company’s schooner Emily by certain inhabitants of the island of Kenn [Kish, also rendered as Ges in the item], and an attack on two vessels from Karrack [Jazireh-ye Khark] by the people of Khirrah [Kherreh], a dependency of the Shaik of Assaloo [Shaikh of Bandar-e ‘Asaluyeh]. It includes a summary of a communication from Mustoofa Khan of Bastuk [Ḥājjī Mustafā Khān Bastakī, Ruler of Bastak].
The item also contains the response of the Government of Bengal From c. 1758-1858, the East India Company's administration in Bengal. From 1773-1833, the most senior of the three subdivisions of India, also known as the Supreme Government of India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. (f 380) to a despatch that is not included in this item.
