Note;- It appears that the whole of the Upper Twat tribes*
under the ’King* of ?wat,his brother and the Fandakai Mu11a,
took part in the concerted operations of the end of August
when they attacked General Beynon’s Camp at Asjam Khan near
Thanajthc Panjkora Bridge held by levies which was heavily
fired on by Utman 7hols;and General ordyatt's force near
Pustara which was being menaced by the Bunerwals.
The 3 unerwal 3 ,howevnr, had had a sufficient lesson earlier
in the month and after further punishment near the Malindri
Pass on the 31st August dispersed. The Panjkora levies beat
off the Utman Khel.who have as a tribe disowned the attackers.
The Pvvat jirgas were handicapped not only by the great Bcfcaram
strength of Grnl 3eynon f t position but by the fact that the
Nawab An honorific title; an official acting as a provincial deputy ruler in South Asia; or a significant Muslim landowner in nineteenth century India. of Dir and his neighbour the Khan of Barwa had become
reconciled and were completely in accord with the British au
thorities. r hepe two Chief were therefore in a position to
act on the flank and roar of the Swat forces who were conse
quently nervous about their advance. They,nevertheless, made
a determined attack on the camp on the night of the 28th Aug
ust but wore dispersed with heavy loss. This portion of t ’ e
I rentier remained quiet from the beginning to the middle of
°eptember when there were some signs of further trouble but
nothing oame of them.
Mohmapds : - In this country a number of Afghan lohnands and
Shinwaris ha've lately crossed into the region of the lower
tohmands who however show reluctance to join them. The head
of the movement is Mir Sahib Jan Badshah rho is supported by
the Chaknawar and Babra :v!ullas and who announced that thg Amir
had abandoned his opposition to jihad.

The successor to the Court of Directors. , collected for the Mesopotamian Commission which was convened to examine the causes of the besieging and surrender of the Indian Expeditionary Force in Kut-el-Amara [Al Kūt].

The papers cover a range of topics and include the following: General Townshend's assessment of the situation after the Battle of Kut-el-Amara; a précis of correspondence relating to the origins and development of the Mesopotamia expedition; and a collection (ff 396-399) of private telegrams between the Secretary of State for India and the Viceroy, prior to the outbreak of war with Turkey.

The file also includes some tables showing the strength of General Townshend's force at Ctesiphon (folio 111) as well as the Indian Expeditionary Force 'D' (In Mesopotamia) Troops of the 6th Poona Division (folio 114).
