A copy of a letter from Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad], to Lord Elgin, HM Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, sent from Bagdad and dated 23 June 1801.
The letter complains that, following a dispute with Jones (see IOR/L/PS/9/76/163), the Pashaw [Büyük Sulaymān Pāshā, Governor of Baghdad] has removed the nobatchys and chouses [nöbetçi and çavuş, guards] in Jones’s service. Jones states that he will remain in his residence until he receives further directions.
The letter was enclosed in Jones’s letter to Jonathan Duncan, Governor of Bombay, dated 4 August 1801 (catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/76/163).
