The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and resolutions, cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. to the East India Company Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , 29 August 1854. The item relates to reports from Khojeh Hiskale [Khawājah Ḥizqīl bin Yūsuf], British Agent at Muscat, to Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , regarding the plunder of a vessel, the Futh-el Khyer [ Fatḥ al-Khayr ], belonging to Ahmed bin Mahomed Ali el Bundeyree [Aḥmad bin Muḥammad ‘Alī al-Bundayrī]. The vessel was carrying cargo belonging to the British, ran aground off Soweih Beni boo Ali [As Siwayh, in Banī Bū ‘Alī territory] on the Jaalan [Ja‘alan, also rendered in text as Jaalun] coast, and was plundered by local inhabitants. Khojeh Hiskale's reports provide details of the incident and subsequent events.

Kemball forwards the reports to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , alongside a copy of his letter to Syed Soweynee [Sayyid Thuwaynī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd], Governor of Muscat. He comments on:

• Whether the Imaum [Imām] of Muscat has control or influence over the inhabitants of the Jaalan coast

The title page of the item contains the following references: 'Bombay Political Department', Draft Number '20 1855', 'Collection No. 5 of No. 58 of 1854', 'Vol: 4' and 'Examiner's Office'. Originally, the Collection number was given as '4' but this has been crossed out and replaced with '5'.
