CHAPTER II,
Note on events in the Mishun Area during the year 1929.
Protection. During 1 the year under review there have been no outstanding
events of importance in the Southern Area of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company,
Limited.
Work has proceeded without interruption despite the fact that at times there
has been a considerable amount of unrest amongst the local tribes.
The Military Detachment there is still maintained, and on the whole has
performed its duties satisfactorily. Its personnel are, however, now relieved
more frequently than has been customary in past years.
Kashkuli tribal guards, numbering 19, are also still maintained at Mushun
under the head guardship of Agha Khan, whilst the local guards at Ganoweh
(Hyad Daudis) and at Gach Qaraguli (Bavies) continue to perform their duties
satisfactorily.
General.—-An outbreak of robberies in the area, some of which were accom
panied with violence, occurred during the latter part of the summer. Very few
of them appear to have been actually directed against the Company and its em
ployees, the notable exception being when Shah Taslim was attacked and looted
by a band of Boir Ahmadi raiders. Shah Taslim is the area from which the
Company pumps its water supply^ for Mushun requirements.
Probably these robberies may be attributed to a certain extent to the tribal
disorders which occurred in South Persia during the summer months, and in
which the Kashkulis, whose winter habitat is at Mishun, became involved.
As the year progressed, however, these disturbances became less frequent,
and at the end of the period under review conditions have resumed a normal
aspect.
