II.— The Ruling Family.
^ ^ (a) The Ruler His Excellency Shaikh Sir Ahmad-ai-Jabir as-Subah, K.C.I.E.,
C.S.I., has managed his state, during the year under reviev/, with ability and success,
in spite of the fact that the early part of 1930 was a more than worrying one for
him, due to the rebellion of the Akhwan 55 in Nejd against King Bin Saud and the
persistent attempts of the rebels to persuade him, the Shaikh of Kuwait, to
throw in his lot with them. The strain of events told severely on the Shaikh as his
sympathies were all along with the rebel Mutair and Ajman tribes, the principal
actors in the piece, for not only were many of the Shaikhs and Amirs of these two
great tribes joined by ties of marriage with the Ruling House of Kuwait, but their

' prepared by the Political Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in Bushire and printed at the Government of India Press in New Delhi for the years 1926-1938.
These annual reports are divided up into a number of separate reports for different geographical areas, usually as follows:
