(c) Epidemics. —Small-pox began in epidemic form about July 15th and
lasted till December 31st. Xo actual record of cases was kept but the deaths
were reliably estimated at over 3,000. Energetic vaccination was carried out
at fixed vaccination centres, the Charitable Dispensary and at the American
Mission Hospital.
One of the brightest features of the epidemic period was the devoted work
done by Dr. Miss Barney of the American Mission. Regardless of heat ain^
personal fatigue this frail lady worked untiringly by day and night at her public
vaccinations.
{d) Personnel, —Assistant Surgeon A. L. Greenway proceeded on leave on
June 2nd for 4 months. He was replaced by Assistant Surgeon R. Easey.
XIV. —American Mission Hospital.
The following is a summary of work done in the Mission Hospital from 1st
November 1931 to 31st October 1932. (The Mission official year runs between
these two dates.)

' prepared by the Political Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in Bushire and printed at the Government of India Press in New Delhi for the years 1926-1938.
