This item consists of copies of a Political Despatch from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated 7 July 1874 and received via Brindisi on 3 August 1874, forwarding a copy of a letter from the Acting Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Zanzibar, representing the advisability of providing a gun-boat for the Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. . The Despatch refers to the Secretary of State for India’s despatch No. 138 of 20 December 1872, regarding the division of expenses at Zanzibar.
