About this record

Content

This black and white print of a plan shows Ak-Kala, a fort on the south side of the river Gurgan in Astarabad, Persia [Iran], 10.5 miles (16.9 kilometres) from the city of Astarabad [Gorgan], and about 35 miles (56.33 kilometres) from the Atrak river.

The plan indicates the twelve roomed double-storied barracks, the Commandant’s House, and the stable, all inside the fort, as well as the river Gurgan and the bridge crossing it at Ak-Kala, the well, and the summer house, outside the fort. It indicates that each of the four sides of the fort are 500 feet (152.4 metres) long.

The plan was created in the Intelligence Branch of the Quarter Master General’s Department in India in June 1885 (and printed in the 1886 edition of Volume I of the Gazetteer of Persia), and was executed by ‘J. A. A.’.
