A short work on medicine composed upon request, as the author Naṣīr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭūsī (نصير الدين محمد بن محمد الطوسي; d. 1274) relates in the preface, in response to the ailments of unidentified prince (see preface, f. 1r, line 9-2r, line 1).

Its 18 short chapters (أبواب) cover physiology, drugs, and dietetics with a particular focus on aphrodisiacs and the attainment of sexual potency and pleasure (see contents and introduction, ff. 2r, line 2-6v, line 5).

The second unnumbered flyleaf bears a list of months in the Ottoman Turkish calendar (f. ii-v).

الحمد لله رب العالمين وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد وآله

وصحبه أجمعين وبعد فإن الله تعالى قد كمل

النفوس الناطقة الإنسانية بمواهب إنعامه

وملأ معادن خواطر الحكماء بإعلامه لهم جواهر

حكمته كما قال الله سبحانه...

Material: Thin, western wove paper embossed 'BATH' within a rectangular frame surrounded by a scrolling floral design

Dimensions: 208 x 135mm leaf [153 x 100mm written] many folded tabs especially to fore edge.

Foliation: British Museum foliation in pencil

Ruling: Misṭarah ; 13 lines per page; vertical spacing 9 lines per 10 cm

Script: Naskh ; the scribe is Muḥammad ʿAlī ibn Ḥusayn ibn Ḥasan al-Jazāʾirī (محمد علي بن حسين بن حسن الجزائري, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 31v, lines 6-7)

Ink: Black ink with rubricated headings

Decoration: Black double frames around text areas on each page

Binding: British Museum maroon buckram binding

Condition: Generally good, some smudging; spine sewing mended with paper inserts towards front of volume. F. 31 guarded

Marginalia: Very few

Seals: British Museum stamp (ff. 1v and 31v)
