Content

An account by Captain Mark Wood of his overland journey from England to Madras via Alexandria, Suez and Mocha. His report discusses the advantages of using the ports of southern Italy and his concerns with French activity in the Red Sea and at Mocha.

Correspondents include Sir William James Bart and Members of the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. .
