Munmoliundass Davidass, Esq., having been proposed as a member of the
Society by Dr Buist, and seconded by Captain Hart, was declared duly elected.
The following donations were laid on the table, for which the best thanks of
the Society were directed to be given to the donors :—
Papers. —By Government.—Journal, by Lieutenant W. Christopher, of the
Indian Navy, of his ascent of the River Chenaub, dated Vizerabad, 1st October,
1847. With a letter from A. Malet, Esq., Chief Secretary to Government, Marine
Department, dated 31st August, No. 1340 of 1848.
By the author, through Captain S. B» Haines, I. N., Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at
Aden. Meteorological Observations as taken on Sham Sham and Seerah Island,
at Aden, &c., for the month of July 1848. By Sergeant W. Moyes.

General Department, dated 8th September, No. 3220 of 1843.
From Smith, Elder & Co., of London.—Johnston's Physical Atlas of Natural
Phenomena, purchased by the Society for £13. 4s. 81.—with a letter aated inon-
don, 19th July, 1848.
Letters.- —From Captain E. P. Dei Hoste, dated 1 lioiiu.a Ghat, 1st Sept.,
No. 170 of 1848, containing observations on the Slag,’’ or as called by the
Natives “ Tamba ke Kit,” found in great abundance at the village of Lora in the
Concan, about twelve miles distant irorn Phonda Ghat. Also remarks on Sand-
s tone, Gigantic Corals, Crystals, Quartz, Conglomerate, and Slate adapted for
house-roofing, to be found in great quantities in that vicinity. The above
letter is accompanied by drawings of the Gigantic Corals, and of the Flower
Kharwa.
From Captain Daniel Ross, of the Indian Navy, dated 7th instant, requesting
that his name might be erased from the list of subscribers from the 1st of tins
month, in consequence of the bad state of his health, which obliges him to resign
his seat as President of the Society.
