This item consists of copies of a Political Despatch from the Government of India's Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated 21 July 1873 and received by the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. 's Political Department on 21 August 1873, forwarding copies of a letter from the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul at Zanzibar regarding the particulars of a cruise of Her Majesty's ship Briton to Lamoo [Lamu], Brava, and Magadoxa [Mogadishu], and steps taken by Captain Malcolm to procure an apology from a Somali at Magadoxa, for reportedly insulting a British subject.
