The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence, minutes and resolutions, cited in, or enclosed with, an extract from a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. to the East India Company Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , 23 June 1849.
The item relates to a claim for 286 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. against Mrs Takwee [Taguhi] Shee, widow of the late Colonel Basil Shee, by an Armenian merchant named Sarkis Satoor [also rendered in text as Sarkeis and Sarkies]. Mrs Shee is owed money from the Persian [Iranian] Government, as her husband’s pay was in arrears at the time of his death. The item contains discussions about the validity of Mr Satoor’s claim and the validity of Mrs Shee's counter-claim that she had previously left him with articles for sale worth 231 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. .
