principality on the Arabian Sea Coast some 50 miles west of
Karachi.
During my time as Secretary to the A.G.G. the 2nd Great War
broke out and I and my Staff were busy for some time cypher
ing and decoding instructions and reports from the Government
of India. The chiefs and tribal leaders throughout Baluchistan
were all most co-operative and loyal and there was no major
disturbance or trouble during the war period. At one time
there was a rumour that pro-Nazi invaders might enter Baluchistan
from Persia and the border was patrolled and vigilance strength
ened on the Kalat - Persian border, but no incident occurred
and the Khan of Kalat and other leaders gave substantial help,
financial and otherwise, for the War effort.
Early in 1943 I was transferred from Quetta District and took
up my appointment as
Wazir
Minister.
-i-Azam (Chief Minister) to Kalat
State.
