The orders in your 62525 M.R.Sa. - 522 July 18th have not
"been interpreted hy me In the same senso as India.
If tho Euphrates line is delayed till the completion of the
line to Kerreseshah it wl31 mean putting it off for at
least 18 months. I am sure in view of the great economic |/|
and political advantages of the connection between Basrah
and Baghdad this cannot have been your Intention.
In the event of Turkey ceasing to be a belligerent or
peace being declared the reasons in favour of the Euphrates
lino become even more forcible and in tho development of
this country It is one of the most Important factors.
With this view Political agrees. I am aware of the difficulty
of provision of track and I would point out In this
connection that as soon as the Euphrates line is completed
the iCut El Amarah Bsghdad lino would be available and It
mirht oven be jssndfch possible to take up the, Amur ah Basrah
line. Please also see my telegram X 567 July 25th in wh&ch
it was stated that part of tho Euphrates lino would be made
by using our 50 mile reserve. Tho suspension cdf linking
has taken place but on this subject I would request thu
Issue of early orders.
