Summary of recent wires regarding Uramia
situation.
On May 24th Packard (American Missionary Uramia)
reported fighting broke out between Kurds and Persians.
Former driven from town. Persians attempted to kill Jackard
and Cla(?)risse (French Missionary and Yice Consu") and
massacred 200 Christians wounded 141. Meanwhile Persian
Governor of Uramia reported Kurds causing trouble in
neighbourhood. June 2nd Packard reported from Uramia 540
Christians under protection of Persian Governor. 250
killed and 86 missing'.
Persian Governor of Tabriz consequent on receipt of
rumours from Uamia June 2nd despatched 30 Persian soldiers
with 2 guns to Urumia. On approabhing Gulman Khan eh these
were fired on by Kurds and compelled to return Tabriz*
Reinforcements sent whose report awaited.
Simko who is reported friendly to Christians is
probably responsible for fighting between Kurds and Persians
Bristowe received very friendly letter from him June 9th.
In Salmas area situation quiet. June 7th American Consul
Tabriz left for Salmas to see. Simko and bring back
Christians who had fled from Urumia including Clarisse and
Packard. Good grounds to believe this mission will
succeed. Bristowe does, not think Persians capable of
dealing with Urumian situation.
As result of Urumian events Armenians and Syrian
representatives Tabriz wired June 6th to President Wilson
and Archbishop of ?Canterbury reporting massacre and
asking
