A review of the future requirements of 3.A.F* units to he
allotted to the Army is under consideration and we wish to consult
you and obtain your views before discussing our proposals with
the Air Ministry.
2. Our proposals are that squadrons be permanently allotted to
the Armies in the last under the local Oommanders-in-Chief as
follows. India 8 Sauadrons, Pgypt 6 Sauadrons, Mesopotamia 4
Souadrons Palestine 2 Mmadrons.
This gives an increase on existing establishment of one
squadron to Mesopotamia and one squadron to gypt and Palestine.
3. Of the above 20 squadrons it is intended to earmark 3
squadrons in Mgypt as a reserve for other theatres if situation
in pg/pt and Palestine should allow of such transfer. The
squadrons v/ill be sent as may best suit particular local conditions
and operations*
4. ,e propose to ask for in addition to the above seven
souadrons to be maintained in Great Britain as a general
reserve. Together with the three squadrins earmarked in
Igypt those will provide a total reserve of 10 souadrons to
furnish possible simultaneous reinforcements of 2 squadrons for
Mesopotamia and 5 sauadrons for India, leaving 3 sauadrons to

File also includes printed weekly returns for the weeks ending 14 March 1918, 28 March 1918 and 11 April 1918, issued by General Officer Commanding, Middle East Brigade, Royal Flying Corps, Egypt, for the Air Ministry, listing squadron personnel (pilots and observers) available and unavailable and machines serviceable, unserviceable and un-erected.
