have to help me with officers. The sapper and miners and
Ancillary services will also bo taken in hand.. I will report
progress mr.de in these respects and the help we find we shall
need from you. Our position as regards animals has been
explained in other telegrams.
(II) I may be able to re-allot the Army by greater
development of mechanical appliances so as to free a few more
units from India for service overseas and I shall (1 group
apparently ommitted ? you) shortly as to what my mechanical
requirements will be for this purpose.
(III) The removal of the drain on our resources which East
Africa now makes. My views about the employment of Indian
units in this theatre are known to you. I trust in order that
I may be able to devote our resources to the increasing demands
from Egypt and Mesopotamia you will soon see your way to ’with
draw them from that country,
(IV) J ask whether your No. 41555. Cipher S.D.2. September
19th implies that India is expected to find all personnel for
such M.T, as may bo despatched from Home to Mesopotamia. For
whilst we arc proceeding to enlist and train Indians as motor
drivers yet you will realise that our immediate resources in
skilled and reliable labour of this kind are limited.
