vented a friendly and useful discussion as to claims, there was no difficulty
in ascertaining what were the existing possessions on either side. Ibrahim
Khan himself fixed, without reserve, his present frontier at Peshin, and de
clined to furnish me with camels beyond that place as being without his
iurisdiction. Indeed, the chief evidence obtained by me.to determine the
actual frontier of possession was gathered on the Persian side from which I
had twice crossed the line of boundary.
Purther, under the arrangements made with His Highness the Khan
of Khelat for the protection of the telegraph on the Mekran coast, Paquir
Mahomed Naib, of Kedj, receives payment up to the frontier already de
signated in Gwuttur Bay, from enquiries made as to actual possession nearly
ten years a 0 *© and again at a later period. That raids, have been made in KohuJc,
Parum Boleida, and Dusht cannot change the situation. These have been
occasioned by an unsettled state of affairs, which it would be a true kindness
to the suffering and wretched inhabitants to change for a mutual understand
ing on the true line of frontier.

As the outgoing Indian mail has been kept back a day or two later than I had
first supposed, I take the opportunity of completing report of progress of the
Mekran boundary enquiry up to this date, the 11th instant.

the Persian Minister of Foreign Affairs, stating that Her Majesty s Government
were desirous there should be no further delay in discussing the Khelat boundary
question and urging attention to a speedy settlemen .

Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 31 October 1871, concerning the settlement and demarcation of the frontier between Persia and Khelat [Kalāt], in Beloochistan [Baluchistan]. The frontier settlement mission was led by Major-General Frederick John Goldsmid.
