6. The weather has been for the last few days cool, but previous to this it
was exceedingly hot and oppressive, the thermometer rising to 105°. Three
deaths, Europeans, occurred from sunstroke, two able seamen of the barque
Tallula and one marine of Her Majesty’s steamer Lynx.
7. Her Majesty’s steamer Lynx proceeded to Angaum on the afternoon
of the 13th; Her Majesty’s schooner Constance left for a cruize on the
morning of the 11th. I expect her to return to-day.

After complimetns, —I beg to inform you that I have received intelli
gence from my son, Humad, that Sultan ben Mahomed Suluf Naeemee and
Maneh ben Eazul have met Syud Toorkee and advised him to proceed inland
with forces in order to give confidence to their followers, numbering 600 men,
who would join His Highness. It is probable that Syud Toorkee may proceed
by land.
I have also learnt by the same letter that the son of Muttowa has attacked
the Batinah Districts, killed 4 men, seized 73 camels, and plundered much
property from the Soor of Kerd to Jenneh. This news has been communicated
by parties who were eye-witnesses to the attack and plunder, and saw the
wounded men. I have thought it necessary to communicate this news to you.
