rumours that Ishak had gone from Samarkund to Maimena, and that Abdool

On the 17th October news came from Hamid Khan, Surteep, in Bokhara,
that Abdool Rahmanreceived encouragement from Maimena : that Afghan
refugees were in the habit of getting away from Samarkund and going to

Khan, saying that Abdool Rahman was
still there, had dismissed all his followers, except a few men of rank, and had
sold all but a few of his horses.
A still greater proof of his resignation to his lot was given at the same
time. Abdool Raheem, who had been apprehended by the Meer of Kirkee,
was by him sent on to the Ameer of Bokhara, and by him to the Russian Com
mandant, with the message that it was he probably who had given permission
for the fruitless expedition to trans-Oxus. He, in his turn, reproached Abdool
Rahman with having thus defamed him. Consequently, when Abdool Raheem
appeared, Abdool Rahman—
“rebuked him, and represented to all his followers: f So longf as Ameer Shere Ali Khan
