On the 25th April the agent wrote—
“ *The Council, the appointment of which has been reported in the Cabul diary of the

its establishment has been that Sofee Khan, a member of the Council, has sought the post of
Moostowfee (of Cabul), and Feramoz Khan, who has been_appointed Commander-in-Chief of
all the forces in Afghanistan, and was lately sent to Toorkistan for inspection of troops, has
expressed his wish ^ to be appointed Governor of that territory. Briefly (the Ameer thinks),
no suitable measures have been devised by the Council, though some members go through the
form of meeting now and then. It appears that the Council will be dispensed with now.”
398. As to the finances, the officers whom he had called on to report on this
subject sent in their statement on the 27th May 1869. It shewed the revenues
of the whole territory to be 1,11,00,000 Dih Shahee
