^ I? rom —C. Alison, Esq., c.b., Her Britannic Majesty's Minister at Teheran.
To—The Right Hon'ble the Eaul of Granville, k. g., &c., &c., &c.
I had the honor to send Your Lordship this day the following telegram:
“ Your Lordship’s telegram of yesterday. I have already obtained satisfactory
assurances from the King. See my despatch of 20th May. But while this
Government give required assurances, their subordinate, the Ameer of Kayen,
has, to all appearances, been playing into the hands of Yacoob Khan. They
assume ignorance and unbelief in the proceedings attributed to the former,
whose toleration of Yacoob Khan’s presence in Persian territory has at. all
events paved the way to his success, while I maintain that they are responsible
for the acts or shortcomings of their subordinate. This is the best check to
such proceedings, and I beg leave to invite attention to the point. It is the
policy of Persia^that Afghanistan should be troubled and divided, but I do not
believe that they contemplate more.”
