to Mohammerah. It is therefore much the shortest and can
be made decidedly the cheapest route for British trade from
the south,
The Foreign Office and Indian Government would be
well advised to substantially subsidise this route, as if
Lynch’s abandon it Russia will almost certainly occupy and
work it. The judicious exrjenditure of, say, £100,000
on improving this road would ensure its success.
In my opinion the Foreign Office and Indian Govern
ment should also subsidise the road which I have above
referred to from Bandar Abbas via Kirman and Yezd to
Ispahan.

Consul General at Ispahan, Prince de Bija, was also visit
ing Persian merchants along with Russian traders and

for the defence of the other parts of our Empire.
