3 "battalions of the 7 battalions referred to in your telegram
47841 of 15th July v/ill be sent to Mesopotamia and not Egypt,
in order to give Maude the 3 battalions he asks for.
as regards artillery we can provide no 4.5" howitzers from home.
If the 4 - six gun 18 pr. batteries referred to in your telegram
51189 of 28th July will be available for despatch in September to
Mesopotamia Maude could then by redistribution of his resources
provide divisional artillery of 36 - 18 prs. and 8 - 4.5” howitzers
for each of 4 divisions, leaving 60-18 prs. and 12- 4.5” howitzers

to be divided between the two remaining divisions. When will the
* four batteries in India be ready?
As regards machine gun companies Maude’s requirements can most
quickly be met by alloting to him the three machine gun companies
being formed in India which will be ready by middle of September.
Replacement from home either by personnel for new companies or by
formed companies can be considered on receipt of your reply if
necessary
Vve can send from home horsed cable and motor airline section.
As regards remaining units required by Maud* please specify those
that can be provided by you and those that must be sent from home.
