I have pointed
out to Prime Minister orally that for good many years
past these troops have been the best and only guarantee
for maintenance of order and for protecting Bushire from
plundering tribesmen. He told me that Persian govern
ment intend to despatch strong contingent of regular
troops to Bush Ire who would be capable of maintaining
peace.
If this werv3 dona would His Majesty ; s Government
and Government of India wish to retain British troops
nevertheless 0 or would they prefer to withdraw thorn
and economise the expense of their maintenance etc.
abroad? it will be remembered that in 1912 their
withdrawal was agreed to in principle subject to fulfil
ment of certain conditions of which chief was the
maintenance of order and security, lip to the outbreak
cf war however, conditions were not regarded as satis
factorily carried out,
I should be grateful for views and instructions
