been
were a number of piracies in the area mentioned
about the time of the alleged incident. Tague
reports were "brought from Muscat in March of pi
racies (one in which all the crew were reported
to have been killed). It is probable that this
report refers to the same incident.
a. As to the information given in the re
port about the alleged lenders, it seems clear
that it is a general description of the pirates
commonly thought to be at work in the 0-ulf and
is not very accurate. "Mirza* refers to Mirza
bin Birkat who in November had made his peace ?ith
the Persian military authorities and, so far as is
known, has not engaged in any piracy since. host
Mohamed is the relation of Ali Jalal (who has very
great influence in the Biaban area between Jask
and Minab and is the leader of the Taherzals) and
may well engage in piracy. There have been no
specific reports of this but his men are said to
visit the Batinah occasionally and there are al
ways rumours of the Taherzais engaging in occasion
al slaving. It is not know to whom Ibrahim refers.
Hassan may be Haasanyar Mohammed, another Taher-
zai leader, or may nossibly be Hussein bin V. or ad.
It is true that the~ “headmen M of the pirates are
related to one another. Rost Mohammed and Hassan-
yar Mohammed are related to All Jalal. Mirza bin
Birkat is related to the pirate Hussein bin Morad.
3. The information given is so vague that
it seems ^uite unreliable as to the participants.
The actual participant may well have been Hussein
bin Morad. There is one other pirate boat said
to be operating, and it may be that of All Jamal,
who lives at G&brlk and makes occasional excursions
to the Batinah.
4. Though the details of the incident are
vaghe, it seems clear that there was a major inci
dent of piracy in the area about the end t
year and some people were killed
His Majesty’s Consul.
