2. The report emanated from a visitor from the
Shumaliyah who stated that the fact of there being a partner
ship between the Sheikh of Fujairah and Mirza bin Barkat was
beyond doubt. Mir Barkat was the father’s name, he is now
dead, and it is his son who is working in partnership with the
Sheikh of Fujairah in the slave trade. He is said to be
absent from Fujairah at present.
3. It is also said that there is a relative of the late
Mir Barkat who is residing at Suwaiq under the protection of
Sheikh Hilal bin Hamad, Sheikh of the Yal Sa’ad. He is
alleged to engage in slavery for which the Yal Sa’ad have
always been notorious. I have addressed the State
Authorities in the matter asking them to remove this man from
their coasts but unfortunately the Yal Sa’ad are so independent
