ever using Fujairah as a base again#
3# The Shaikh was quite open and said that Firsa bin
Barkat* s womenfolk were there close to the village, but that
he and the gang had transferred themselves in their boat to
the Persian side. There was & large number of Baluchis
living on this Coast and some of them were undoubtedly bad
characters and were troubling the rabs. He promised to
try and arrest Mirza bin Barkat and his gang if they returned
for the women .and in any case he would prevent them from
using nijairah bb & base any more*
4* There are large numbers of aluchis on the Batlnah
Coast, many of whom are bad characters with whom the local
rabs are not anxious to come into conflict* There se-ms
little doubt that Fujairah has been harbouring this gang
and getting some benefit from their activities! but the
shaikh is obviously anxious to stand well with the British
and la somewhat dismayed at the general resentment caused
by the recent depredations of the gnng and the undesirable
publicity in which he finds himself involved.
5* It is unlikely that he will be able to arrest the
gang but I believe he will prevent them from using his terri
tory as a base in future.
6 . Should the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Muscat, now be able to
visit the place in a sloop, the impression already made
on the Shaikh should be much strengthened. " instructed Mr*
Felly to re visit Fujairah after a suitable interval to see
that the ‘haikh ke-'ps his promise.
