Barkat.
2. Sultan yesterday informed me that he has left
Fujairah but intends to return; and that Wali of Sohar had
put pressure on Sheikh not to shelter him.
3. This indicated assumption of suzerainty, and I
asked Sultan whether he considered Fujairah independent
or not. He replied that it had been independent for
"tens of years”. I conclude that his mental reservation
was "independent of Sharjah". In this connection please
see correspondence ending with your telegram No. 0082
June 9th, 1939.
