left undisturbed ensuing progeny are expected to cause widespread crop

me•isurea can be instituted end of September or early October threat cannot
be averted,
3. Co-operation of Persian, Russian and Indian Governments with M. ,C. is
being sought by telegram. They are being asked to send experts to meet a
representative of tne (, u, nti-Locust Unit at earliest opportunity.
Please make all necessary administrative arrangements for such a meeting in
consultation wi a Maxwell Darling,
Bushire has been suggested as a suitable
place in view of probable locust concentrations but location of meeting must
be left to you.
4. Methods and scope of operations would be decided on the s f ot nnd
implemented*ith all available resources. M. 2. .C. should be responsible for
all administrative arrangements for arranging for provision of transport and
whefe necessary approaching Governments who se co-operation may directly or
indirectly assist locust units, so that experts can be free to concentrate on
technical work.
5. Understand stocks of poison are sufficient at l«aat for Persia. Diffi
culties will be labour and transport. In regard to former, alternatives are
local recruiting or Army.
6. Trsinaport b. provided either by U.yC.C., Local Military authority's
or Anglo-Iranian Oil Co. Understand last named were extremely helpful lent
year and are being asked to afford all possible help again. Could you arrange
for an officer of suitable standing to attend meeting indl relieve experts as
-
far as possible of transport and labour aspect of campaign in Persia.
7. Arabia though lees pressing by some four weeks presents greatest diffi
culties o:' labour and transport. Suggested by experts that bases of attack
might be Amman and Aden.

The file contains correspondence relating to the organization of anti-locust controls in India, East Africa and the Middle East, especially Persia [Iran], where international conferences of locust experts were held. Support for scientific research and international cooperation between the Government of India, the British Government and the Government of the Soviet Union are also discussed. Included in the correspondence are the minutes and reports of the Interdepartmental Committee on Locust Control, which was run by the Colonial Office Research Department in London. There are also field and conference reports by prominent entomologists Dr Taskhir Ahmad of the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Dr Boris Petrovich of the Anti-Locust Centre at the Imperial Institute of Entomology, London.

In addition, there is routine correspondence between officials about equipment, supplies and locust forecasts by geographical area. The main correspondents are: the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , the Colonial Office, the Agricultural Department and the External Affairs Department of the Government of India.
