involve immediate release of Mar Shimun.
3. Assuming above proposals fail problem is how
to arrange for the return of Assyrians (l) without court
ing danger of massacre, (2) in a manner acceptable to
Iraqi amour propre. King Feisal would of course give
guarantee for their lives and safety for what it is
worth. But what comforts me much more than any guaran
tee of Feisal is the fact that I am advised by local
experts that no massacre would occur unless ordered by
me Iraqi Government, which is inconceivable 0 After
all Assyrians will at the very outside have lost only
one quarter of their rifles and if following proposal
is adopted it will be much less.
I propose following practical solution,
