Addressed Bushire.
Repeated Baghdad No.507.
Jerusalem No.329.
Please communicate following to Knox. Owing to
shortness of notice it appears doubtful whether representative of
urged to despatch one on the ground that satisfactory frontier is
more likely to be secured at general discussion where Ibn Saud may
be induced to take reasonable line by concessions elsewhere.
I communicate following general policy of His Majesty’s
Government which should be kept stric^A|r/ secret for your
guidance. Subject to comment from Baghdad or Jerusalem which
should be repeated to me it should be adhered to.
His Majesty’s Government are directly concerned with
frontier of Trans Jordan as being frontier of mandated area of
Palestine. Provided that Trans Jordan has access to Gulf of
Akaba, that Nejd does not encroach upon Hejaz railway and that
Khurma and Tur aba are included in Hejaz they are prepared to
exclude whole of
Wadi
A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows.
Sfithan from Kaif inclusive and to allow Hej<e J
to extend northwards along railway as far as Mudwwara. No
objection would accordingly be seen to frontier being drawn from
intersection of meridian 39 with parallel 32 to intersection of
meridian 37 with parallel 31|. From this point along meridian
37 to parallel 31 and thence to intersection of meridian 38 with
parallel 30. From this point along meridian 38 to parallel 29°
35’ or point due west of Nefud salient. From this point
across Hejaz railway in Mudawwara neighbourhood to point south of
Akaba on gulf Line as ultimately delimited will for practical
purposes no doubt follow natural features but general direction is
as
givei^/above.
