With reference to your letters Nos* 52695/23,
52784/23 and 52786/23 of 30th and 31st ultimo on the
subject of Wahabi activity which was finally reported
to be taking the form of a raid under Baidal Oawish
across the Hejax Bailway near El Ula, I am directed by
the Marquess Gurzon of Kedleston to request that the
Duke of Devonshire may be moved to address telegraphic
instructions to His Majesty*s Political Besident in
the
Persian Gulf

2. Colonel Trevor should point out that such
activities in the Hejaz territory on the part of faisal
Da wish and the followers of the Wahabi movement at a
moment when His Majesty's Government are engaged in trying
to arrange a meeting of the representatives if Ibn gaud.
King Hussein, King Eeisal and the Emir Abdullah to settle
outstanding difficulties are most strongly to be deprecated,
more especially after Ibn Baud has already agreed to send
his delegate for this purpose to Koweit# The Secretary of
State trusts that Ibn Saud will deal with Faisal Dawlch as
he deserves and that he will no longer suffer the peace to
be disturbed by foolhardy exploits of this nature which can
only have the effect of rendering a settlement of the
disputes more difficult*

Correspondence, minutes, draft papers, and memoranda relating to the delineation of the boundary between the Kingdom of Nejd and Transjordan Used in three contexts: the geographical region to the east of the River Jordan (literally ‘across the River Jordan’); a British protectorate (1921-46); an independent political entity (1946-49) now known as Jordan . The papers deal with matters such as the status of the Jauf [al-Jawf] region, the idea for a Baghdad-Haifa railway, numerous raids and counter raids along the border area, and the proposal and preparations for a conference in Kuwait to settle the boundary issue.
Correspondence is principally between officials at the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , Colonial Office, Foreign Office, and Admiralty.
