A copy of a general letter, and a further accompanying letter, from John Sarson and Francis Dickinson at Mocha to William Phipps, Governor of Bombay, dated 31 May 1723 and 10 June 1723.
The letter dated 31 May 1723 covers matters including: ships arriving at Mocha and departing Mocha; goods which had arrived at Mocha from Europe and India; the procurement of goods in Mocha for sale in Europe; the trade of the East India Company in general at Mocha, and relations with the Governor of Mocha and the Imaum [Imam]; repairs to the Mocha Factory An East India Company trading post. building; and factors, writers, officers and soldiers of the Mocha Factory An East India Company trading post. , and the Factory An East India Company trading post. accounts.
The letter dated 10 June 1723 concerns events and news from Mocha since the letter of 31 May, including: the arrival of the ships Craggs and the Prince Augustus ; the loading of the ship Barrington with coffee, and the probable dispatch of this ship the next month, and the dispatch of the Craggs soon after; and their enquiries into what had happened to a ketch sent from Bombay to Socotra.
The letters were received via the ship Craggs on 27 May 1724.
