Majesty, and the ratification shall
In witness whereof, Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, on behalf of Her Majesty
ribe Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland and Syud Toorkee
bin Saeed, Sultan of Muscat, on his own behalf, have signed the same and have
affixed thereto their respective seals.
Done at Muscat this fourteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-three.

The present Treaty shall be ratified by Her

Agreement entered into by the Sultan of Muscat relative to the jurisdiction o
the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul over subjects of Native States in India
residing in the Muscat Dominions.
Whereas it is desirable that all subjects of Native States in India residing in
Muscat territories should be amenable to the jurisdiction of the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency.
and Consul at Muscat, and it would appear that such jurisdiction is at present
defective without the express consent of His Highness the Sultan: It is hereby
formally declared and consented to by His Highness Syud Toorkee bin Saeed OB
behalf of himself, his heirs and successors, that subjects of Native States of India
who may commit offences within the Muscat dominions shall be amenable to the
Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul's Court in the same way as British subjects whenever,

and that the words “ British subjects ” in all Treaties between the English Gov-

of Muscat, to Major S. B. Miles, Her Britannic Majesty’s PoLmoAL
Agent and Consul, Muscat,— dated 3rd Mohurrum 1291 t e ru
1875.
I have received your letter of the 2nd instant, and have understood its 00
tents. I abide by the agreement made by my father with the Bnti ve
naent regarding the Customs duties leviable on goods landed from 18 J 68 ?
v essels. For example, if a vessel that puts into Muscat for repairs, an

This part relates to the Government of India's decision to issue a revised edition of Aitchison's Treaties (full title: A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and Sanads Relating to India and Neighbouring Countries ), with revised narratives for each geographical area covered, incorporating the principal events that have occurred since the publication of the previous edition in 1909.

The part contains two copies of proofs for the following revised narratives: Treaties and Engagements Relating to the Arab Principalities in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (ff 305-328 and ff 617-640) and Treaties and Engagements Relating to Oman (Muscat) (ff 406-422 and ff 641-657). Also included are copies of related treaties, agreements, and correspondence for the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (ff 329-405 and ff 540-616) and Oman sections (ff 423-477 and ff 485-539), which cover the periods 1806-1927 and 1798-1928 respectively.

The proofs are accompanied by interdepartmental correspondence discussing the contents of the narratives, and the possibility of amendments and additions being made, such as for the parts entitled 'The Wahabis and Nejd' and 'Kuwait' in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. section. In addition, the correspondence discusses the question of whether to include recently concluded agreements with Mohammerah [Khorramshahr] and Kuwait in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. section. Also included is a list of anomalies and misprints that have been identified in the proofs.

The main correspondents are as follows: the Foreign Secretary to the Government of India; officials of the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , Foreign Office, Colonial Office, and the Government of India's Foreign and Political Department.

The French language material consists of a small amount of the aforementioned treaties and agreements.
