Statement made by B a shir bin Marzooq a^ed about 30 years
Kecorded on the 10th J u ne 1937.
l beg to state that 1 am originally from Abyssinia.
Vfhen 1 v/as a child 1 was kidnapped from there and brought
to Jidda where i was sold to Darwish whose father’s name
i do not know. 1 worked in his house for 8 years. Afterwards
nu
my master Darwish took^to barin and sold me to a certain
person called dalim bin Khamis. I remained in the latter’s
house for 20 years. H e used to send me to diving and
to receive all ny earnings. H e was not even giving me
enough food and proper clothings. I was not keeping a good
health for the last three years, having seen ny condition
and inability my master started illtreating me. I having
u.oand nyself in that wretched state approached a gentleman
of ba-in W ho granted me K s .io/- and I left in a fisherman's
boat for 3 a hrain. I now beg the nigh British Government
to grant me a Manumission Certificate so that I should
live without the interference of others with my liberty.

Aside from the manumission applications, the file also includes printed copies of the Proclamation of the Slave Trade Act (1873), distributed annually around the British offices of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (folios 30-32, 215-217), and an Arabic copy of the Saudi Government's 1936 regulations regarding the slave trade (folio 178, with an English translation on folios 180-184).
