The first was tmt of tiie status of liajd as an independent
Sultanate which, in his opinion, was now entitled to
formal international recognition* 'fhe second was that of
the right of importing arms into Jtajd, for which he wished
to press very strongly on the plea tnat the possession
of firearms was a necessity of life in the aesert.
The third was that of financial assistance* His Highness
said that his efforts at restraining the tribes from
incursion and raid into neighbouring btates had caused the
tribesmen to demand some form of compensation for the
loss of what was, in fact, a traditional means of
subsistence.
7, 1 informed His highness that 1 was not prepared
to offer any observations on the questions which lie had
raised, but that I would certainly transmit them to bonuon
and would emphasize his urgent request ior an early
expression of the views of His fajesty’s Government on
the subject.
8. 1 am informing the Government of Inuia of the
wishes of the Gultan of Haju in this matter, and am
communicating to them a oopy of tuia despatch.
